Hanoi water puppeteer invites Footprint to his home

Hien Water Puppets 300x225 Hanoi water puppeteer invites Footprint to his home  (July 2012) – A few weeks ago we were invited into the home of water puppeteer, Mr. Liem. Ms. Hien, who has been working on a few new tours and products to offer Footprint Vietnam Travel clients and guests, was the one who went on behalf of Footprint. She was intro ducted to Mr. Lien and his family, learned about water puppets, and had a private water puppet show!

Mr. Lien, comes from a long family line of water puppet makers and puppeteers. He is the sixth generation in his family. Today, Mr. Lien is proud to boast a new portable theatre which he has taken all over the world from Canada, to Paris, to Korea. His family are also the ones who make the water puppets for the famous Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre in Hanoi.

This idea behind visiting Mr. Lien is to see if it would fit well into Footprint’s tours. Ms. Hien has said, “there are a few things still to work out, however Mr. Lien is very enthusiastic about bring guests to his house, teaching them about water puppets, showing them a water puppet show, and even letting people learn how to use the water puppets.” If all goes well, Footprint guests might be calling themselves water-puppeteers on their Vietnam tours by December!
