Travelling in Vietnam: tough for some, an amazing experience for others. A response to Nomadic Matt’s blog

Nomadic Matt logo Travelling in Vietnam: tough for some, an amazing experience for others. A response to Nomadic Matts blog (August 2012) – A couple of years a travel blogger named Nomadic Matt wrote an honest account of his experiences travelling through Vietnam. The article, Why I’ll never return to Vietnam, has been one of the most talked about, controversial articles in Vietnam and Southeast Asia travel blogs.

As a response to his article, we at Footprint Vietnam Travel, are disappointed to hear about his experiences being “hassled, overcharged, ripped off, and treated bad…” It is such the case for a few – often the intrepid backpacker – travellers to Vietnam.

As a tip to those who venture through Vietnam without a guide, you are very likely to experience similar situations as Matt did. This, especially if you have not taken the time to learn some of the language, a little bit about the culture, as well as some of Vietnam’s annoyances.

For those who do decide to go on a Vietnam tour with a guide (especially a Footprint guide!) you are guaranteed to have a very different experience. You will be ensured valuable local knowledge, never get ripped off, and you will have a way to culturally communicate effectively.

To end, Vietnam is still a favourite spot among many. Please don’t let Nomadic Matt’s article deter you from visiting.
